Hello, my name is Rain, and I’m reaching out for help on behalf of my friend, B. He originally had a fundraiser, but I realized that he did as he always did and made light of the situation to save face. So, I came here to share this deep and emotional plea for help.
Ever since we met, B has been a goofball. He always walked around with a smile on his face, helping anyone who needed it, whether it was by giving them money, giving them his ear, or making them forget their problems by entertaining them, even when he was silently suffering due to his crippling depression. He was and is a kind, caring, and boisterous character who brightens up the room whenever he enters it.
In November of 2019, he caught Covid before it was on anyone's radar in the US. He was in the hospital for a few weeks, but by the grace of God, he survived and was able to go back to work. However, on New Year's Day of 2020, he woke up unable to see with his vision spinning, unable to walk due to severe balancing issues, and plagued by intense headaches.
After two months of constant doctor's appointments and being told it was only vertigo, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. For those who aren't aware, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, lifelong progressive disease involving damage to the sheaths of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, whose symptoms may include numbness, impairment of speech and of muscular coordination, memory loss, brain fogginess, blurred and/or loss of vision, intense mood swings, and severe fatigue.
Since his diagnosis, he carried on the only way he knows how — with humor, bravery, and without complaint. No matter how bad it got, he always did his best to carry on. But now, MS has completely taken over his life.
Since the disease progressed enough to cause him to lose his job, both his mental and physical health have deteriorated dramatically. He went from someone who could dance, play tennis, pick apples with his mom, go to conventions, and play games throughout the night with me just to work a full 8-10 hour shift to being a shut-in, walking with a walker with a limp due to the loss of strength in his left leg, constantly falling when moving from his bed to his walker, dealing with his memory loss, always exhausted to the point of sleeping an entire day away due to it, unable to play games, unable to work, and just...withering away in bed.
He was never one to show emotion unless he was at his breaking point, but recently, he shared the emotional pain he's been going through. He cries. He feels humiliated. In his darkest moments, he says he wishes he could just close his eyes and never wake up. And that's just the things he feels comfortable sharing with everyone. There are other things that have happened that humiliated him in the worst way.
Despite doing all the right things to keep himself afloat during this one-person fight, I discovered that he was deep in debt over years of supporting himself, with maxed out credit cards due to price of living and medical, such as doctor's visits and medication. And because of these debts, he's now living with his parents, who are wonderful people, but they alone can't help support him.
My goal for this GoFundMe is very simple. I am hoping to raise at least $2000 - $5000 in order to:
* Help pay off his credit card bills and medical bills.
* Get him a better walker, or better, an electric wheelchair, as his back is getting weaker
* Make adaptations so he can live safely and with dignity
These changes would, hopefully, give him a chance at independence, give him a clean slate money-wise, reduce the risk of serious injury, give him confidence to leave the house again, and, most importantly, they would give him hope.
Thank you all for the read, and I hope this inspires people to donate and/or share his story.
