Yesterday my 6-week-old nephew, Bryson, was admitted to the hospital for the treatment of bacterial meningitis. He is anticipated to be hospitalized for up to a month. Bryson is a resilient little fighter, but the road ahead is long. His parents are faced with the challenging role of caring for their two other little children and supporting Bryson through intense around-the-clock treatment. In addition, they are trying to balance work, care for their dog, and rushing between home and the hospital daily. The mounting costs of extensive medical care, travel, meals, and lost income creates a burden on the family whose only focus should be on the full recovery of Bryson and their family.
