I am reaching out on behalf of my brother, Bryson and his family, as they are one of the many families affected by Hurricane Helene’s destruction in Asheville.
A large tree came down on their home in the middle of the night on Thursday, crushing their primary bedroom and Collier’s (their middle child’s) room. We are so grateful that Collier was not home and that the rest of the family wasn’t injured.
Hannah and Emmy were able to leave the area on Sunday, and they have spent the last few days directing requests to help towards local organizations helping with the relief efforts. Bryson and Aydan have stayed with the house and animals and have been instrumental in supporting and assisting their neighborhood.
Now, with a bit of distance from the initial shock, the reality of their situation is becoming clear, and I’m hoping we can rally around and support them through the next few months. Bryson owns a roofing company and has recently finished a few big jobs (a few in Lake Lure which was another incredibly hard hit area) that he is was waiting to be paid for. Now those homeowners are in a similar situation, some having lost everything, and it’s unlikely he will be able to collect that income.
I would love to be able to provide them with the ability to find a rental until their home is habitable. I would love to provide the funds they will need while they wait for their insurance to help. I would love to help supplement a fraction of the income they’ve lost and help them rebuild. Bryson is staying in the area to keep his crews employed and to help Asheville rebuild. It feels like such a daunting task.
So many of you have been so wonderful to reach out and to offer support, so I thought this may be the most practical way to help. On behalf of their family and our entire family, we thank you so much for your kindness.
We recognize that the number of people in need is staggering and would also love to point you towards organizations on the ground that are actively working with the relief effort. Please find those links below. Thank you for anything you are able to contribute.
