Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,
I’m reaching out today with a heavy heart but a hopeful spirit. I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d need to ask for this type of help—but today, I’m reaching out because I have no other choice. I’m asking for your help due to a court order.
In December of 2022, my wife at the time decided she was done with being married. At that point, I was faced with trying to map out what my new life would be. Financially, this was a challenge as she stopped contributing to the household until she moved out in May of 2023. As the divorce negotiations progressed, disagreements arose over how things would be divided. Negotiations lasted for over a year, with no progress being made. This process was long, expensive, and emotionally draining.
I finally reached the point where I couldn't keep going back and forth to court, only to have it continue. During negotiations, we agreed that I would take on most of the marital debt—including some she created—in exchange for her not touching the 401(k). Unfortunately, she went back on that agreement and decided to pursue my retirement funds 7 months after the divorce was final.
Unfortunately, I thought I had a legal withdrawal from my 401(k) due to hardship. However, I did not know that, because of the divorce, I wasn't supposed to touch the money.
Despite my efforts to resolve things fairly, I was taken to court. Her attorney filed a motion to hold me in contempt and demand payment for her claimed share and legal fees. The judge ruled in her favor and gave me just 60 days to come up with $6,800, or face up to six months in jail.
I’ve started saving, and I’ve even asked for a payment plan. But realistically, there’s no way I can raise this amount in time without help.
Every contribution helps, no matter how big or small. Your generosity will enable me to avoid jail time, close this painful chapter and begin rebuilding my life with some peace of mind.
Thank you for considering my campaign. Your support, whether through a donation or by simply sharing this with your network, will make an incredible difference. I am deeply grateful for your kindness, and I promise to keep you updated on the impact your help is making.
I have no intent on bashing or exposing my ex-wife. Life has a way of rearing its head. This is about what I did and the consequences I face. I wish her the best in her new life. I just want to move on with mine.
Warmly,
Bryant
