Hi everyone,
On June 13th, our friend’s husband, Bryan, a 51-year-old father of two, suffered a medical emergency due to End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). He was admitted to the hospital, and his prognosis deteriorated to the point where he needed to be placed in a medically induced coma while on life support. Thankfully, after being sedated, he was able to be weaned off life-saving measures and woke up from the coma. He then stayed in the hospital for another 10 days. Bryan was sent directly home instead of going to rehab, and there are some deficits, as well as other challenges they are dealing with.
Since the event, Melanie has been Bryan's caretaker. Although Bryan is on the list for a kidney transplant, until that time arrives, he requires dialysis three times a week. Because he can’t drive due to his condition, Melanie has taken on the responsibility of taking him to early morning sessions three times a week, on top of working full time. There was a glitch in the Medicare system, which caused Bryan's insurance to be deemed inactive. As a result, they have had to pay for prescriptions and other medical expenses out of pocket.
Melanie had a resale business through which she supplemented the family income. She has been unable to work the business as Bryan’s care has been her priority and they have lost that income as well as Bryan’s. The loss of a job alone is a major life event and has a significant impact on your finances add to that the financial impact of a serious disease and you can be swimming in debt in the blink of an eye.
Healthcare challenges are scary enough, we shouldn’t have to worry about being able to pay our bills or keep our house. It would mean the world if you could contribute to this Go-Fund Me Account and keep Bryan, Melanie, and their family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank You for your support and assistance during this trying period.
