Help fight for the 1st Amendment. Taking part in the 50501 protests on Feb 5th, 2025, thousands of peaceful protesters took part in hundreds of peaceful protests across the US. Three of them were arrested in Des Moines, Iowa at the Iowa Capitol, one of which was Bryan Guyer.
All video evidence and testimonials show Bryan doing nothing other than peacefully and quietly protesting as part of the 50501 group in the Iowa Capitol rotunda. After an hour of protests, the State Police asked the group to exit as they had another group that needed to use the area. The crowd began making its way out. The other two arrestees (vocal leaders, but still non-violent and peaceful speech users) were placed in handcuffs. A State Trooper then shoved Bryan from behind as he was quietly walking out with the rest of the group. A minute later, another Trooper grabbed him and pulled him back towards the rotunda, where he was also arrested. The charge was “Interference with Official Acts.”
Though the three were only held for a few hours and their bail paid for through other generous donations, the State of Iowa did not drop the charges. They did offer Bryan a plea deal that included probation and a substantial fine. As he did nothing and was a 19-year-old with no prior record, working towards being a fireman, he wanted nothing to be on his record, so he declined the offer.

The group went together to retain an attorney. During a pre-trial event in early May, the State said that they will pursue the charges and the trial is set for July in Des Moines.
A separate GoFundMe was created (https://www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with-iowa-freedom-fighters). It has additional details, but it is primarily centered on the other two defendants and momentum has slowed.
This GoFundMe will be used to pay for the joint legal fees of all three defendants.
