Hello, I am a friend of Bryan Creech.
He underwent a procedure to bring comfort and provide himself a better quality of life yet woke up paralyzed. He came in for this procedure on his own two feet and left in an ambulance to an emergency neurological hospital. He is unable to engage in his career as a pilot and thus, to work to support his family as he had just a few weeks ago.
I woke up paralyzed and had no idea where I was, I had no feeling from my waist down. I woke up in a recovery room from a routine procedure, this was to implant a spinal cord stimulator and should have been a very non invasive surgery. I am now experiencing excruciating pain that is so intense that it is indescribable. My life was flashing right before my eyes. These thoughts went through my mind- I will never walk again, I’ll never be intimate with my wife again, and I will never be able to fly again. Tears were rolling down my face as the only thing I can get out of my mouth were agonizing screams of pain and fear.
I went into this facility with so much hope for the future to finally have some relief of the back pain I had previously experienced then to be rushed out in an ambulance to a neurological hospital where a surgeon preformed hours of surgery trying to give me hope that one day I’ll regain feeling and function in my legs again.
They prepped me for surgery as I kissed my wife, hugged my kids and our 1 year old granddaughter they took me back and changed my life. The doctor and his staff tragically messed up. They cut a blood vessel and sewed me up with a massive blood hematoma causing damage to my spinal cord and I woke up with paralysis.
This is going to be a long road to recovery. At this point no one knows what recovery will look like. After 2 weeks in the ICU during the Christmas holiday, I was then transferred to a Rehabilitation facility. At this point I can now take steps and use a walker and a wheelchair. I have to wear a diaper and a catheter and have to have help to giving me daily showers and meals etc.. I am now in physical therapy trying to make progress on my mobility.
I have spent my entire adult life being a giver, support system, and a leader; Always trying to lift people’s spirits when they are down or taking care of immediate bills when people get in tight situations financially. Most of my free time outside of work is spent at my martial arts school where I am a 2nd degree black belt teaching and encouraging students of all ages to face their fears and seek bravery. Now, I’m the one that is in need of help. I am the one who needs encouragement and uplifting and I am the one that’s need some financial support to help through all these medical bills that will soon pile up and help relive stress from my wife and 3 kids that only want their husband and dad to focus on recovering and being able to walk normally again.
