Support Brutus's Heartworm Treatment

Go fund me UPDATE: Vet Estimate is between $2200 and $3000. Hi My name is Nai Walsh! About a month ago my boyfriend and I adopted this beautiful boy from New Hanover County Animal Control! We named him Brutus even though he's a big Teddy Bear! He is 2 years old! When we adopted Brutus we were told he was in good health and in good condition ! He was a house arrest dog and Rottweilers are very hard to get out of animal shelters due to their reputation. Like I mentioned before, Brutus is a sweetheart! Unfortunately I got a call today from our local vet with Brutus’s blood test results! In these results they stated he was positive for Heartworms and many other illnesses! Now for those who don't know about heartworms, it take at least 6 months to form into adulthood heartworm and harm a dog. My boyfriend and I got Brutus a month ago meaning he was heartworm positive while he was in the shelter. This means that the shelter did not test him for heartworms! He was also positive for hookworms and Lymes disease, even though his vaccination records stated he got vaccines to prevent both. The New Hanover County Animal Control never tested my Brutus before telling us he was healthy and in good condition! So we adopted him under the impression he was in good health! Sadly I went to New Hanover County Animal Control today trying to get vet records and more proof than what I was given. They were not able to provide documentation. Ontop of that I asked if we would receive some sort of financial help due to the fact that heartworm medication and treatment ranges in the low to mid thousands I was told that was not possible and I could surrender the dog. Never in my life did Imagine having to put this poor baby back into a shelter! My boyfriend and I already have a healthy 9 month Rottweiler at home that Brutus did get sick at no fault of his own! So now we have to seek treatment for him as well! My options today were to surrender my dog or pay for his treatment with nowhere close to the money to do so! So unfortunate that Brutus was not checked properly and was not treated properly! God knows how long he has been sick with heartworms and now my puppy is sick with parasites! I am asking for your help in Brutus’s treatment and Bane’s treatment! Surrendering Brutus back to the shelter to likely be euthanized is not an option! No dog should ever be taken back to the shelter due to negligence of the shelter! Please help support me through Brutus’s heartworm condition so we can keep this beautiful boy and get him healthy again! He deserves a chance at life and I do not believe in returning him!
