On August 22, 2024, at 8:57 a.m., my beloved baby brother's life changed forever. While on his way to work, he was struck by a truck that failed to yield the right of way. Despite wearing his helmet, the impact from the deceleration was so severe that he sustained grade 3 Diffuse Axonal Injuries (DAI), the most severe category of brain injuries. The accident left him in a coma, fighting for his life. He’s undergone multiple surgeries, including two brain surgeries, a tracheostomy, and the insertion of a feeding tube. The medical outlook has been grim—there’s a chance he may never walk or talk again—but my family and I refuse to give up hope.
If you were lucky to have met my brother, you’d agree what a radiant light he is in the lives of everyone around him. He’s a carefree soul, a passionate distance runner, yogi, chef, singer-songwriter, plant lover, and frequent tree climber. A devoted family man, loving dog-dad to Simba, and a wonderful uncle to my daughter. The outdoors are his sanctuary; he loved to hike and immerse himself in nature. But perhaps more than anything, my brother’s true passion is motorcycles. He loves the freedom of the open road and the thrill of riding, but his dedication went far beyond that. He was a skilled and passionate motorcycle mechanic, someone who didn’t just see bikes as machines but as works of art that he could bring to life. He took pride in his career, helping others experience the same joy he felt every time he worked on a bike.
While our world came to a standstill that day, his bills did not. On top of the mounting medical expenses, my family has had to make major lifestyle changes. My parents had to leave their home out of state and his girlfriend has stopped working in order to support him around the clock. I’m reaching out to ask for any help to ease the financial burden. Doctors have warned us the road to recovery could be years and your donations will go toward his rent, bills, care for Simba and his snake Oreo, and other expenses that arise as we navigate the uncertainty of the days to come.
If you aren’t able to donate, we ask for your prayers. We believe in miracles, and the more prayers, the better. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
