Support Brooks' Intensive Rehab Journey
Donation protected
My brother, Brooks Waite, is an amazing, fantastic and caring man. I love him very much! He and his wife, Carolina, have had a tough time of it since the end of 2023. Brooks had been battling back problems, on May 2024 he had surgery, a Laminectomy, he thought to improve the extreme pain he was having while walking, that proved to be the start of the nightmare. Once the day surgery was done and he was back at home, that literally, was the last time he walked. He hasn’t walked since. He developed multiple bloods clots in his lungs (Pulmonary Embolism) and legs and was rushed to the intensive care and put on an ECMO machine (Life support). We hoped he would recover but it looked grim and he even died for 4 minutes during the time he was in ICU for over 45 days. VERY SCARY! The good news was he was finally discharged to a rehab facility but his medical insurance would only cover 25 days there so in July of 2024 he was discharged and sent home. He did have physical therapy come in a few times a week but he still is NOT ABLE TO WALK yet. He still has a catheter after all this time at home and cant even stand up to go to the bathroom or take a shower. The doctors are saying he needs intensive physical therapy full time at a rehabilitation center, which his new insurance recently approved and he is there right now trying to improve.
In addition, Carolina got laid off from her job, so she is dedicating her time to take care of Brooks, so you can only imagine the financial and emotional stress of this situation.
I am really hoping that his family and friends can come together and donate what they can in order to help cover some of the co-pays to send him to the rehab facility so he can walk again as well as paying for some of their bills as neither of them have worked recently. We are at our wits end and don’t really know what to do. Your help would be so appreciated!!! Anything you can give would really help him to pay for some of the medical bills as well as day to day bills. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
If you are unable to donate but would still like to help please share this post, it would also help. Thank you again.
