Hi everyone,

I never imagined I would be in this position, but I’m reaching out because our sweet baby boy Brooks had to be hospitalized in the ICU due to severe gastroenteritis. Costs so far (for one day and night in the ICU along with meds he came home on) have totaled nearly $3,500.

Brooks is the most energetic, ball-chasing, goofy, happy boy you could ever meet. If you’ve ever met him, you know his whole world revolves around running full speed after a ball and making everyone laugh with his silly personality. He is always moving, always smiling, and always ready to play.

Over the weekend, when my partner and I were out of town, what seemed like simple stomach upset quickly turned serious. Brooks began vomiting repeatedly and developed severe diarrhea. He became dangerously dehydrated, lethargic, and weak, and our friend Sarah rushed him to the emergency vet (thank you Sarah we don't know what we would do without you). The doctors told us he needed immediate hospitalization and intensive care to survive.

Treatments included: IV fluids to treat severe dehydration, medications to stop vomiting and reduce inflammation, close monitoring in the ICU, a foley catheter bag for his diarrhea, multiple sets of x-rays, and round-the-clock care to stabilize him.

After many hours of treatment in the hospital, they called late last night they and said that we can come pick him up and try to continue to rehydrate him at home. He is still very weak and refusing to eat or drink water. If you know Brooks, you know this is very unlike him. We are very worried. We are making him comfortable for now and watching him closely. If this continues he will have to be re-admitted to the ICU.

We are raising money because my partner and I do not have the funds and I am very worried he will have to be re-admitted. Brooks is more than a pet — he is our baby. Our constant companion, our comfort on hard days, and the source of so much unconditional love and joy. If you are able to donate, no amount is too small.
