In February of this year, Brooke celebrated a huge milestone-turning the big 4-0! With this momentous event came another, much less fun, occasion-Brooke’s first mammogram. She thought about putting it off, but scheduled an appointment for May, just to be safe. The results revealed that there was a spot needing additional diagnostics and a biopsy was performed. The biopsy results revealed Stage 1 Breast Cancer.
Brooke reacted with courage and grace; she was grateful it was caught early and launched herself into preparation for the next steps. Surgery on June 12th to remove the mass was successful and Brooke has since begun the 20 rounds of radiation to make sure she is good to go!
Throughout this ordeal, she has relied on her faith in God, her daughter Faith, family, and friends as sources of support and comfort. Brooke is always one of the first people to check in on anyone facing a challenge, or to bake cookies for a special occasion, or to offer a kind word, thoughtful message or a funny meme. Because of who she is, and how much she means to us, her friends and family wanted to do something to help her! Thank you for your interest.
As a single mom to an amazing kid, Brooke not only works full-time at COFS, she has a second job as well, and while she plans to keep doing it all during treatments, we know that a little help could provide some well-earned relief. Brooke would never ask for help from us, so that is why it feels even better to start this campaign and see if we can gather around her and lend a hand! Brooke’s treatment is falling at the end of one high-deductible insurance plan year and the beginning of the next, so any contributions made will help with meeting this deductible, medical bills, and other out-of-pocket expenses.
Words of support and well-wishes are always welcome and will provide comfort and encouragement as well! Let’s fill this page with love and cheer Brooke on as she continues to kick this cancer to the curb!
