Support Brooke in her life saving Transplant journey
Don protégé
As most of you know, I was born with a non-curable genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis (CF). It affects my lungs, digestive health, and my sinuses. In 2010, I was dying and was blessed with a perfect set of lungs after being put on the national organ donor list! A lung transplant isn't a cure or a fix; it's just borrowed time. Transplanted lungs only last statistically 5 years. In my case, I've had these bad boys for 15 years! I'm so grateful for this extra time on earth I've got to spend with all my friends and family, making memories, and helping others in any way I can. Spreading my light and love to all. Unfortunately, I am down to 26% lung function and in full rejection. I am yet again at square one. I'm not ready to end my fight though! CF shall not win! I am back in need of another life-saving transplant. I have been approved by Washington State University, the best-known lung transplant hospital, to receive another transplant and start my journey all over again! But a few things have changed since my last transplant.
Part of getting a lung transplant requires you to live within 1 hour away from the hospital post-transplant, which is impossible to do from Hillsboro. We're required to get a temporary apartment in Seattle while I do daily testing at the hospital for their 2-month protocol. They used to have a program that pays for a pre-chosen apartment within a few miles from the hospital for transplant patients, but that program no longer exists. It's now up to us to find and pay for a minimum of 2 to 3 months' rent in an apartment somewhere near the hospital. Although there are many options and locations that work with the hospital, with availability, the issue is affording one. Because of the times, obviously, the cost of living has gone way up! It will still cost a minimum of $3000/month for rent while still keeping our current apartment in Hillsboro. Not to mention me and my 2 caretakers need to survive on (food, gas, etc.). We looked into state help and I believe we have things covered for our current home in Hillsboro, but we unfortunately don't have much choice but to ask for help.
I got my transplant in 2010 when it took 3 years to get the call, but with today's technology and advanced treatment for CF patients who still have their original lungs, now they say the wait time could be 1-3 months which doesn't give us much time to save about $10,000. We know times are tough as it is! So literally ANYTHING helps. And if you can't contribute, honestly, an easy share would mean the world to me. I love you all so much. Thank you!
