Help Us Start the Brood Awakening Student Monthly Jam Session!
Hi! We’re Brood Awakening, a student jazz group from Seattle. Over the last two years, we've hosted a monthly all-ages jam session at Seattle Jazz Fellowship and the Black & Tan Hall. It has been one of the most meaningful parts of our musical journey. We’ve met other musicians, learned a lot, and gained real experience performing on stage.
This year, we’re looking for funding to launch our own Brood Awakening Student Jam Session. It will be a free, monthly jazz jam for students in the greater Seattle area. It will be hosted at The Rabbit Box, located in the heart of Pike Place Market (the former Patti Summers jazz nightclub). We are incredibly grateful to them for hosting this event and supporting student musicians!
This season will run from February through June, and we plan to pick it back up again in August 2026 for the next season.
Why We're Doing This
We want to keep growing as musicians, and one of the best ways to do that is by playing in real jam sessions with other people. Our jam features an all-student rhythm section, giving young musicians the chance to lead the session, gain confidence, and get real experience on stage.
Each month, we invite one rotating professional guest musician from the Seattle jazz scene to sit in with the students. This gives everyone a chance to play with experienced players while keeping the focus on student leadership.
We also create simple educational handouts with tune suggestions, tips, and helpful info for anyone who wants to join. The cost of printing these materials is covered by our student stipends.
Why We Need Your Help
To run each jam session, we need to cover:
- Stipends for the three Brood Awakening students who serve as the house rhythm section, $100 per student
- One professional guest musician at $150
- Basic costs to organize and host the event
- Each session costs $450 total.
For this first season from February through June, we plan to host five sessions.
Season Goal: $2,250
This allows us to keep the jam completely free and open to everyone.
How the Student Stipends Help
The student stipends support the Brood Awakening house rhythm section and help us continue growing as musicians. They go toward:
- Private lessons
- Sheet music and educational materials
- Instrument upkeep and musical gear
- Saving for summer jazz camps
- Future demo recordings and albums
- Learning how to earn money through music and performance
We’re trying to take responsibility for our own musical development, and running this jam session is one way we’re working toward that.
Sponsorship Levels
$100 – Friend of the Jam
- Helps support part of a monthly session.
- Your name will be listed on that month’s handout, and we’ll thank you at the jam.
$150 – Pro Sponsor
- Helps pay for the professional guest musician that month.
- Your name will be listed on the monthly handout and thanked on social media.
$450 – Session Underwriter
- Funds the entire month’s jam session.
- Your name or logo will be featured at the top of the handout, thanked on social media, and at the jam session.
- We’d love to take a photo with you at the event!
