On August 22nd I will run, along with my 10 fellow "Chariots of Tired" teammates, in Hood to Coast - an 199 mile relay race from Mt. Hood to the Oregon Coast. After 13 marathons, my combined total of 16 miles across 3 legs isn't daunting. But running it across 36 fairly sleepless hours - including the middle of the night - is a true challenge. Running, even in disadvantageous circumstances, is a personal indulgence, so I wanted to use this challenge to raise money for a cause I support.
I discovered Broken Souls Rescue and Recovery Inc. through a New York Times article in February 2024. Mike's mission is to rescue abandoned, abused, and neglected pitbulls from unsafe conditions. Every donation makes a significant difference in these dog's journey to recovery and happiness, including essential care and medical attention.
I came late in life to running. And late in life to my love of dogs. I also came late in life to my understanding of addiction as what it is - a disease like any other, and one that afflicts nearly 50M Americans. I am proud to raise money to help the challenges faced by these dogs through no fault of their own, while I make a choice to challenge myself.
I appreciate your support in any way you are able. Thank you!
