Help Brodie Get the Surgery He Desperately Needs ❤️
Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out on behalf of my sister and her incredible dog, Brodie — a sweet, resilient pup who's been through so much and still wags his tail every step of the way.
Brodie was adopted at 8 months old after being returned by his first adoptive family. When he joined my sister's home, he was shy and unsure, but it didn’t take long for him to become the heart of their family. Through love, patience, and training, Brodie transformed into the loyal, loving companion they had always hoped for. He became their hiking buddy, their travel companion, and their daily joy.
In November, while my sister and her family were on a long-planned vacation, Brodie stayed with me — and things went great until one rainy day when he got spooked and bolted out the door. I tried everything to get him back, but he was in full flight mode. Tragically, he was hit by a car. A kind stranger found him and contacted my sister. He was rushed to the vet hospital and later transferred to a 24-hour emergency clinic, where he was treated for lung trauma and later diagnosed with nerve damage that left his front left leg paralyzed.
Despite the heartbreak, my sister and her family never gave up on him. They took him to every therapy available — acupuncture, red light, laser, and rehabilitation. There was some movement in his upper arm, but Brodie could never bear weight on that leg. Still, he kept going — full of life, tail wagging, running and playing like nothing could stop him.
To protect his dragging paw, my sister sewed custom padded leather booties that she constantly replaced. It worked — until it didn’t. Recently, after a swimming session meant to strengthen his leg, Brodie hurt himself badly. The wounds on his paw are now deep and not healing. The vet has made the heartbreaking recommendation: it’s time for Brodie to have his leg amputated. There’s no feeling in his paw, and continuing like this will only cause him more pain and injury.
The surgery will cost several thousand dollars. On top of that, Brodie may need a special harness to help with mobility and continued care during recovery. My sister is still paying off the emergency bills from November, and although I offered to set up this fundraiser months ago, she felt uncomfortable asking for help.
But now, we really need it.
If you’re an animal lover, if you know the bond between a dog and their family, or if Brodie’s story moves you — please consider donating. Every little bit helps. Let’s give this tough little guy the pain-free life he deserves.
Thank you for your support, from the bottom of our hearts.
With love,
