Faith Over Fear: Bro. Alan Berry’s Healing Journey

On September 4th, our world changed in an instant. My dad, Bro. Alan Berry, was rushed by ambulance from White Hall to the hospital in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, with severe abdominal pain. What we thought might be a quick hospital stay turned into a life-threatening battle that has tested our faith, endurance, and trust in God like never before.

That night, doctors discovered that part of Dad’s colon had perforated and was leaking into his body. Emergency surgery was performed, and from that moment, every day became a fight for his life. He faced dangerous infections, low oxygen, and unstable blood pressure, which led to multiple (5 in total) major surgeries, including the complete removal of his colon and placement of an ileostomy bag.

Dad spent weeks in ICU on high-flow oxygen, sedated and on a ventilator, battling liver and kidney complications. But through it all, we witnessed miracle after miracle, organs that began to heal, infections that cleared, and strength that only God could provide. Even in his weakest moments, he would squeeze our hands, a quiet reminder that his faith never wavered.

After weeks in Pine Bluff, Dad was transferred to Little Rock for specialized care. He is now out of ICU and in another long term hospital room working hard through physical, occupational, and speech therapy, learning to stand, eat, and rebuild his strength. Every small step forward is proof of God’s healing hand and a reflection of Philippians 4:6–7:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

This journey has been long and exhausting, physically, emotionally, and financially. My mom has not been able to return to work since September 4th, as she’s remained faithfully by Dad’s side every single day. I took a month off from work to be here, as did my husband, my brother, our aunts (Dad’s sisters), and Mama Berry, who’ve all stepped in to support us when we needed it most.

Mom and dad’s church has been absolutely incredible, checking in constantly, lifting us up in prayer, and showing God’s love in action. We could never express how thankful we are for their support. We’ve also traveled and served in many places over the years, meeting so many wonderful people along the way, and we know that many of you may also want to help however you can.

The hospital bills, travel costs, and time away from work have added up quickly. But we know that God provides through His people, and we continue to trust Him to meet every need. If you feel led, please consider donating or sharing this page to help relieve some of the financial strain as Dad continues his long road to recovery.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your prayers, love, and support. Please continue praying for my Dad and mom still have a very long, hard road ahead, but we know that the same God who has brought him this far will see him through to full healing.

Bro. Alan’s faith has remained unshaken, and his life is a living testimony that God is still in the miracle working business.
