Support Brittany's Fight for Better Care

Hi friends!

My name is Dana. I'm a friend of Brittany's and a fellow CSF leaker.

I'm creating this fundraiser to support Brittany in getting the medical care she desperately needs and fully deserves. Her quality of life suffers due to medical negligence, and despite her best efforts to advocate, the medical system continues to leave her without much of the care and management she requires. She deals with chronic CSF leaks, a connective tissue disorder, POTS, and more.

As a fellow complex illness patient I know first hand how difficult it is to get anything we need done, especially within the insurance model. Doctors are swamped and this is especially true for primary care doctors who are often forced to take on thousands of patients to receive their required financial compensation from insurance claims. Many of them simply don't have the capacity to give patients like Brittany the high level of care and time needed.

While Brittany will continue pursuing most of her treatment within the insurance network because this is the only feasible option, she would benefit massively from exiting the insurance model for primary care. Direct primary care (DPC) is not financially accessible to many, yet for complex patients like Brittany this set up also has the capacity to create a much more care intensive and supportive environment.

Benefits of DPC can include having more urgent/on demand access to a doctor who knows your case well, better oversight for complex medical issues, better communication with specialists, longer and more readily available appointment times, faster progress, better care management plans, and more.

Brittany is in need of many things her current doctors are not giving her. She is doing the medical system run around while putting every effort into treatment, healing, being a full time mom, trying to advocate for herself, all while suffering from a level of pain and symptoms I hope most never need to experience. She even spends the limited energy she does have advocating for chronic illness on social media and has reached tens of thousands with her knowledge and experiences.
