Hi, my name is Brittany. I’m 38 years old, a wife, and a mom to three incredible boys. My family is everything to me, and until this year, our lives looked very different.
Over the past several months, our world has been turned upside down. I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive autoimmune disease called polymyositis, along with overlapping dermatomyositis and scleroderma. These diseases are attacking my muscles, affecting my lungs, and slowly taking away the strength and independence I once had.
What started as weakness and pain has become endless appointments, hospital visits, infusions, testing, medications, insurance battles, and uncertainty about what comes next.
I began IVIG infusions in hopes of slowing the progression of the disease, but even treatment has become another fight. Insurance has denied medications my doctors prescribed, changed where I’m allowed to receive treatment, and forced me out of hospital-based care into infusion centers with constantly changing schedules and longer travel. Every month brings new complications, new expenses, and new stress.
Because of the severity of my condition, my life now revolves around treatment days, recovery days, and trying to push through the exhaustion and pain to still be present for my children. Some days, even simple things feel impossible.
Financially, this has devastated our family far more than we ever imagined. Between medical bills, medication costs, missed work, travel expenses, childcare needs, and the unpredictability of my health, we are struggling just to stay afloat. The constant changes with insurance coverage and treatment approvals have made planning impossible and added an overwhelming amount of pressure to an already heartbreaking situation.
The hardest part of all of this is my children. They have watched their mom go from constantly on the go to fighting just to get through the day. They’ve seen the hospital visits, the treatments, the fear, and the uncertainty no child should have to carry.
We are asking for help because right now, we simply cannot do this alone anymore.
Every donation helps cover medical expenses, treatment-related travel, household bills, and helps us keep some stability for our boys while we fight through this. If you’re unable to donate, sharing our story means more than you know.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping our family hold on to hope during the hardest season of our lives.
