For those who know Brittany (Campbell) Ma, you may already be familiar with her story.
For those who don’t, Brittany is an RN at Reid Health Cancer Center who has spent years of her life caring for others—often putting everyone else before herself. Even before becoming a nurse.
Brittany lost her mother to cancer at a young age & endured a lot of hardships.
She married her children’s biological father in 2012, and he passed away in 2018. She was left a widow with two very young babies, both of whom had serious health issues and required life-saving surgeries.
Shortly after this, Brittany and her girls experienced a devastating furnace house fire, losing many of their physical memories.
Despite all of this loss, Brittany pressed on. She worked up to four jobs at a time to provide for her daughters and put herself through nursing school—all while continuing to care for others. If Brittany knows you’re in need, she shows up. That is who she is.
This just touches the surface of what she has endured.
In recent years, Brittany found true love and married an incredible man, Marshall. He has stepped in wholeheartedly as a loving, supportive husband and a devoted father figure to her girls.
Their family now desperately needs an adoption to take place to provide legal security and, most importantly, peace of mind for Brittany and the children.
Recently, Brittany was diagnosed with Stage 3A kidney cancer.
While the specific type of renal cell carcinoma has not yet been confirmed, we do know she will require a radical nephrectomy (likely an open procedure), followed by systemic medical therapy and ongoing monitoring for recurrence or metastasis.
Her surgery must take place at an academic medical center (likely IU Health or Cleveland Clinic), and recovery is expected to take anywhere from 6–12 weeks. The duration and intensity of post-operative treatment will depend on pathology results.
We are praying fervently that her cancer proves to be one of the less aggressive forms.
This journey will require extensive travel, overnight stays, parking, second opinions, potential out-of-pocket medical expenses with her deductible, further treatments, and the many day-to-day needs that come with surgery and recovery; including meals, childcare, child activities to keep the girls occupied (the girls do not know & we would like to keep it this way for the foreseeable future), therapy to help them navigate as they have experienced so much trauma already, the adoption cost & lawyer fees, pet care, and more.
Brittany has exhausted her PTO and will be unable to work during treatment and recovery. Marshall will also need to miss work to be by her side throughout surgery and healing. She will also need help to somehow recover some loss of income to get by.
Simply put, this family is going to need a great deal of support to get through this incredibly difficult season. Any help—whether financial support, prayers, or sharing this story—means more than words can express.
If you can't give, there will be links provided after her surgery for meals, childcare, etc.
Other ways to support include helping with day-to-day needs as Brittany heals. She may require someone to stay with her during times when Marshall is at work. A freezer or additional refrigerator would be incredibly helpful to store and preserve meals. Housekeeping or cleaning services during her recovery would also be greatly appreciated.
Brittany has made sure to be there for others. Feeding the hungry, providing shelter & clothes to those in need & opening up her home.
It's our time to touch heaven & show up for her.
Thank you for loving and supporting Brittany and her family during this time.
