Support Brittany VanMeter-Burke's Brain Surgery Recovery

Hello everyone!

I am grateful that you stopped here to read my story.

I was born with a genetic condition called AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation) of the brain. It runs on the women's side of my family.

My mother is a survivor of 2 strokes and 3 brain surgeries (one of which was a brain stem hemorrhage).

At 5 years old, I had my first brain surgery, which was an open/full flap craniotomy on the backside of my head, to remove a golf ball-sized blood clot (cavernoma).

At 27 years old, I had my second Crainotomy on the left frontal lobe that removed an 18mm-sized blood clot (cavernoma).

I am now 38 years old. I'm scheduled to have my 3rd Crainotomy on Dec. 2nd 2024. This surgery will be on the left side above my ear and is to remove a blood clot (cavernoma) 1.9 cm in size.

I am currently not working, and my work leave disability checks ended this past June. My husband works full-time, but his income covers about half of our bills. I've been trying to help contribute by selling things here and there online.

My insurance is set to expire at the end of December. They may not approve me to go past a year leave of absence.

The money raised is to help with my current medical debts and help keep our bills paid while I'm recovering and unable to contribute.

I have had 3 MRI scans (1 regular, 2 functional) as well as many doctor visits throughout the year.

I was also told by my neurosurgeon that this brain surgery may affect my mouth function, cause drooping of the right side of my face, and could potentially affect my speech. It may also affect some of my right-hand function.

If any of those things were to happen, then I will need physical therapy. The money raised would also help with that.

On a positive note!!

We have 2 cats (Flo & Mavis) that will definitely help a lot with being cuddle buddies while I'm recovering!
