Laying My Father to Rest — In Loving Memory of Butchie

Hi, my name is Brittany Matthews, and I’m reaching out during one of the hardest moments of my life.

On June 28th, my father, James “Butchie” Matthews, passed away unexpectedly after being admitted to the hospital for breathing complications. I am absolutely heartbroken. He was not only my dad — he was my best friend, my biggest supporter, and the only parent I had left after my mother passed away in 2020.

After we lost my mom, my dad and I bought a house together. We leaned on each other through our grief and built a home filled with love and strength for me and my three children. Now, with his sudden passing, I’m left trying to hold everything together — planning his funeral, caring for my kids, and trying to keep up with our home and bills — all while processing this overwhelming loss.

It’s incredibly hard for me to ask for help, but right now, I need it. I want to give my dad the memorial he deserves and wanted — one that reflects the love, light, and strength he gave to everyone who knew him.

I’m asking for support to help with:

• Funeral and memorial costs

• Household expenses during this time of grief

• Stability for my three children as we adjust to life without him
