On the night of Thanksgiving, when everyone was sleeping soundly after their Thanksgiving meal, my adopted daughter’s home was robbed clean. She and her dog Biscuit were with us in Nashville for the week. On the morning after Thanksgiving, she woke up and realized the camera in her house wasn’t working and that the last picture was of someone in her room turning on the light. We called the cops and some friends to go check it out. The individuals had broken into her home and slowly, all night, taken all her things out and completely trashed the place. Brittany’s dad died at a young age; it’ll be 13 years ago in a couple of days. Many of her dad’s things, which can’t be replaced, were in that home, including his death certificate.
The nightmare has continued. Despite our best efforts to secure the property, these individuals broke in a 2nd time and a 3rd time into her RV. The police in Pueblo, CO have been less than helpful. They have stated they don’t have enough resources. The insurance company is treating her like a criminal. It is all very overwhelming and financially, mentally, and physically burdensome.
I am setting this up on her behalf, so that hopefully we can get her a different, safe place to stay while we clean up the mess, deal with insurance, and sell the home, as she no longer feels safe. Unfortunately, insurance will not pay for any living expenses. Her life is forever changed. We are praying that with escalations to the Police Chief, DA, and management, we start to get some answers. She has gone through a lot in her life and she always has a positive attitude, but even the best of us need some help.
