Hi hi hi! My name is Bri, and I’m a 20-year-old girl here in New York seeking mutual aid after being thrown out of what should’ve always been a home to me but never was. Here I’ve endured years of mental and emotional exhaustion, mistreatment, and abuse, and this is the last and final time I will pick up the pieces of my soul to rebuild after being broken down again and again and again. This is by far not the first time my mother has rampaged and violated all of my personal, sentimental belongings, memories, and valuables, but it will for sure be the last. Every part of my spirit is beyond drained. I am desperate and ready to finally leave - and despite her efforts in taking the liberty of bagging and tossing and emptying all my things, strangely enough, my mother has not made it easy at all. I am typing this to you from my laptop, the only communication device I have as of right now because my mom decided to take my phone when I left it unattended and she has no intentions of returning it to me. I’ve been forced to get a new one that will thankfully arrive soon, but I still face other obstacles.
Now that I have to leave, I need to find somewhere to stay, get a new job near wherever I’m staying, and save save save for my own steady and stable living space. I’m lucky enough to have a friend who’s offered to let me stay with them for a week, and I have one other family home in which I can stay after that week. But the environment of that other family’s home is not stable and I’m not yet certain if I can stay with them.
My plan from this moment forward is to rent a Uhaul truck and a storage unit to move every trace of my belongings out of the house for good. After that, my phone should have arrived, and I packed a week’s worth of carry luggage & living essentials to stay with my friend upstate for a week. During that time, I’ll contact my other family to see if I can live with them, and in the instance that I can, I’ll apply for jobs in their area so I can start working and saving right away.
This is my plan, but the position I’m in is precarious and tight. I have a total of $180.53 to my name after having to get a new phone and phone plan, and about $100-$110 of that total is soon to be spent on getting the storage unit and moving truck - so I won’t be left with much. I intend to get a unit near the house I’m leaving (on Long Island) to save on immediate moving costs, but if I’m able to stay with my other family, I’d eventually like to save enough to rent a unit that is closer to where they live in the city (Brooklyn).
I won’t be able to maintain my job now that I’m forced to leave Long Island, and I’ll be looking instantly for a new job, but for now, I have no source of income. After moving expenses, I’ll be left with hardly $100, so please please please, if you have anything to spare, get to my goal of $1000 in exchange for all the love I’ve ever had in my heart and even a little kiss on the cheek would be worlds and worlds appreciated! I’m hoping to have figured out my living situation and found a new job within at least a month and a half, so $1000 or even a portion of that would help to cover all of my immediate needs until then. Here is what I’ll be putting the goal money towards:
- Paying my phone bill
- Paying the monthly rent on the storage unit
- TRAVEL FEES, as I’ll have to get a cab to the train station, and then take the LIRR → Subway → MetroNorth to get upstate to stay with my friend. Since I’m only staying for a week, I’ll currently be carrying just enough for that length of time, and if it turns out that I’ll be able to move with my other family, then I’ll have to get more of my clothes and other things out of storage, so this travel fare will be double for the trip back
- Misc Living - Food, Hygienic & Feminine Products, and just Emergency / Pocket change in case of any unpredicted circumstances or needs
Thank you again for reading and should you decide to be kind enough to donate, I owe you my heart.
All of my love,
Bri ❤.
