At Campbell, we consider our employees part of a family—and right now, one of our own needs our support. Brinden, a hardworking and compassionate team member, and his family are facing a serious medical condition. As the HR representative, I’ve seen firsthand the impact he has on our workplace. We’re launching this GoFundMe to help ease the burden and show Brinden just how much his work family cares.
"Our daughter Miriam, age 11, was born with hydrocephalus. It is a condition that causes excess fluid to build up within the ventricles of the brain, causing pressure that can lead to severe brain damage and can be life-threatening if not mitigated. The treatment of this involves brain surgery and the installation of shunts, which unfortunately have a 40% fail rate within the first year.
Earlier this year, she ended up severely ill and had to be life-flighted to Seattle Children's Hospital for immediate surgery. The distribution tubes from her shunt had become infected, and her shunt was failing. She was in the ICU for a week and a half and then admitted to the hospital for another 2 and a half weeks. During this time, she underwent two separate brain surgeries, as well as abdominal surgery to remove the tubing and run a new tube to her lungs.
Fast forward to two weeks ago, she became ill again, and after a trip to Seattle, we discovered her ventricles were swelling due to the shunt not working properly. On the very same day, we found out that the hot water distribution line under our house was, and had been, leaking. We've had our crawlspace and a quarter of our house completely torn apart and are working on reconstruction. Meanwhile, Miri has already had an additional brain surgery to replace the faulty shunt, and we are waiting on another MRI to verify if it is working properly. If it is not, we are looking at a fourth surgery.
While we’re incredibly grateful that Miriam’s medical expenses have been covered by insurance, the financial toll of this journey has still been significant. The repeated travel to and from Seattle, time away from work, and the basic costs of being on the road—food, supplies, and occasional lodging—have added up quickly. Any support you’re able to give goes directly toward easing these pressures, allowing us to stay focused on caring for Miriam and navigating the road ahead as a family." - Brinden
