BLUF: 9.13.25 Brigitte turned ten. 9.14.25 Brigitte and her family were in a devastating car accident, her spinal cord was severed, and science and medicine do not currently have a way for her to walk on her own in the future. She and her family are all alive and this is most important, however, if you have enough and you are able to share even $5, please share what works for you to help Brigitte and her family adjust to their new normal and sustain their family needs. Jessie has had to quit working and Tim has not been able to work for weeks while they focus on celebrating that all of them are alive, supporting her through surgery and treatments, healing from their own physical wounds, and work to even start wrapping their minds and hearts around how to make their new normal the best possible life.
In Jessie’s own words:
9.20.25 –
For those who haven’t heard, Brigitte, Tim, and I were involved in a car accident on Sunday, September 14. Amazingly, we’re all alive—unborn Baby Ophelia included, who amazingly is completely unharmed. Tim needed two staples and has some bumps and bruises and what he thinks may be a few broken ribs. I have a broken sternum, and bruises on what seems like every part of my body. But it’s Brigitte that suffered the worst of the repercussions. Her back is broken, and her spinal cord was severed, rendering her unable to feel anything below her waist. This is something that will not change as time goes on.
I was transported to Jonesboro where I spent a day or two while they monitored Ophelia for any delayed issues. Brigitte was airlifted to Memphis and Tim was driven to her by a stranger extending much needed kindness, and I headed there after being released and we’ve been at Le Bonheur ever since. Hopefully we will be back in KC by Monday or Tuesday where she will start in-patient rehab at Mercy Children’s Hospital.
She’s had spinal surgery to fuse her spine and had two rods and twelve screws put in place to stabilize her spine. She’s been nothing short of the bravest person I know on the planet. For now, she’s in the best shape we could possibly hope for.
For those that have already known, the love and support and prayers have helped keep us afloat more than anyone would imagine. When we get back to KC, I’ll be able to sit down and untangle my brain for better updates to share. Hug your babies a little extra tight, friends.

An update on B: She and I are finally headed back to KC on Children’s Mercy Medical Transport plane. We’ll be much closer to home within the hour.
She has a long road of recovery ahead of her but has already made such significant strides. She can sit up in her brace with far less pain than the last few days. She still laughs and jokes and has her sassy attitude—even with the waves of sadness she feels. And she’s very much looking forward to our wedding in November and her baby sister being born in December.
Tim is traveling home on the road with my mom and Joel. He has a much longer travel time back to KC. He’ll stop in Waynesville for a much-needed visit with his friends, and they’ll grab the dogs and head up to KC within a day or two. Once we are all back in KC, Tim and I will be checked out by doctors again to reassess our own injuries, but in the meantime, we are all headed home and for that we are so grateful.
Brigitte, Jessie, and Tim are good people in a beautiful family. They do such an incredible job of supporting each other through pain, both emotional and physical, and through the entirety of life. They will be okay as they work toward a new normal, and as always, they will love each other unconditionally. Only if you are able, please consider helping them, be it donation, time, lifting and sorting, creating and sharing, laughing and feeling, prayer or sending good energy.
