Sweet 2-year-old, Briggs, has been diagnosed with severely advanced scoliosis, with a 57-degree curve in his thoracolumbar spine. His doctors have recommended a highly specialized back brace that must be custom-made in Atlanta to help slow the progression and give him the best chance at a healthier future. Unfortunately, his health insurance will not cover the cost of this brace, which is approximately $8,000. Time is critical — the longer we wait, the more his spine will curve, making it harder to treat and putting his health at greater risk. He will eventually need casting of his spine and then surgery, but the hope is that the brace can stabilize the curve so that we can prolong the surgery. Briggs is such a bright, loving little boy, and he deserves every opportunity to grow, play, and thrive without being held back by his condition.
