Bridget is a lively 14-year-old girl who loves dance, acting, adventures, and travel. Her life quickly turned upside down in late June when she couldn’t eat or drink basically anything without being in severe pain. In July, she got diagnosed with Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMAS) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). SMAS is a rare digestive condition that occurs when the duodenum, part of the small intestine, is compressed between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. POTS is a condition where a person experiences a rapid increase in heart rate when standing up from a seated or lying position, often leading to symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, and sometimes fainting, due to a malfunction in the autonomic nervous system that regulates blood flow upon position changes. Since then she has been diagnosed with several additional Abdominal Vascular Compression Syndromes (AVCS) of Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome (MALS), Nutcracker Syndrome (NCS), and May-Thurner Syndrome (MTS). You can follow her story on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bridgets_journeys/#
Because of these conditions, she is now only able to consume nutrition through an NJ tube and cannot eat normally.
She has unsuccessfully tried a number of treatments and now faces a complicated surgery and lengthy hospital stay out of her home state (there is no surgeon nearby who can do the surgery). We're raising funds because insurance will not cover the whole cost of the surgery, and her family will also need to travel to be with her and aid in her recovery.
