Two weeks ago, Bridget suffered severe frostbite and spent 11 days in the burn unit at Strong. She has deep tissue damage to both hands and one foot, which required extensive, meticulous, and painful wound care on a daily basis completed by the caring and diligent nurses at the hospital.
The initial few days were terrifying with intense pain and the possibility of surgical amputation. However, Bridget was able to push through each dressing change, and her body showed signs of healing, so she did not need surgery.
She still requires extensive wound care, pain management, and physical rehabilitation with limited use of her hands and the inability to bear weight on her affected foot. It will be a long and arduous road ahead for Bridget to regain function and independence. She is unable to work due to her physical limitations. It is also uncertain if she will be able to return to school this semester in her pursuit to become a radiology technician.
Please consider donating to this GoFundMe to support Bridget with medical expenses (wound care, physical and occupational therapy, and mobility equipment).
This has been a very difficult time for Bridget and her family, filled with pain and uncertainty ahead.
