Dear Friends and Community,

Our dear friend, Brice, has been bravely battling cancer since February 2024. What began as stage 3 throat cancer has now spread to his lymph nodes and lungs (stage 4). He is currently undergoing his third round of chemotherapy as he and his wife, Lisa, continue this incredibly difficult journey together.

Insurance unfortunately does not cover home health care, leaving Lisa to take on the full-time role of caregiver while also managing their home. The emotional and financial toll is heavy, and we want to help lighten that load so Brice and Lisa can focus on what truly matters: time together.

Brice and Lisa have been a part of our lives for many years. They were some of the very first people we met when we moved to the Big Island. Through their bar, Okolemaluna in Kailua Kona, we met lifelong friends we still cherish 15 years later.

Their entrepreneurial spirit has shined wherever life has taken them. After leaving Kona, they moved to Missoula, MT, where they launched a food truck called Tacos Nuevos, once again creating a gathering place that connected people through food and friendship.

They later returned to Kailua Kona, where Brice became one of the founding partners of Cheeky Tiki, a lively and beloved tiki bar that remains one of the best in Hawaiʻi today. For many of us, it brings back memories of the early days at Okolemaluna and the warm community they created.

Eventually, Brice and Lisa moved to Louisville, KY, where they opened Earlybird Bagel Shop, which quickly became a cherished spot in the community and brought even more people together.

Everywhere Brice and Lisa go, they leave behind a legacy of generosity, connection, good food, laughter and love. Now, they need our help.

We are reaching out to ease the financial burden of medical expenses not covered by insurance, caregiving needs, and everyday costs. Any amount you can give will make a difference.
