Support Brian's Road To Recovery From Open Heart Surgery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jordyn Dooley. Most of you reading this already know who this is, but for those of you who don’t know who this is, this is my dad, Brian Dooley. My dad is a member of the american legion riders memorial post 17, a navy veteran, part of the marine corps league, a father of 5, a loving husband, and so much more. My dad has always been the one to go above and beyond for those in need and never ask for anything in return. Similarly, my dad has never been one to ask for help. So, I am here to ask for support in his place.
If you are not already aware, my dad has an extensive cardiac history including blockages in his arteries. Previously, these blockages were located in his legs and we were able to place stents in order to open those blockages. Last Wednesday, my dad went in for an angiogram to check for any new or worsening blockages and our family was met with unforeseen and rather shocking news. My dad’s cardiologist informed us that my dad has worsening blockages in his heart. His heart is 70% blocked on one side and 90% blocked on the other. Although stents have been previously placed for prior blockages, we were informed that due to the specific location of the blockages, the doctors cannot safely place a stent. As a result, we were advised that the appropriate and best course of action to open the blockages is open heart surgery.
As you can imagine, our family is extremely apprehensive following this kind of news. Last Thursday, we met and spoke with my dad’s cardiothoracic surgeon who will be performing his surgery. My dad’s set date for his surgery will be May 27th. Following his surgery and into his recovery, we are looking at about 5 to 7 days spent in the hospital, followed by about 2 months spent at home. These estimated time frames are considering that the surgery is absent of complications and goes as planned.
During this recovery time, my dad will be unable to work due to restrictions, such as driving. As a result, our household will go from a two income household to a one income household temporarily until my dad is cleared to return to work. Although we are grateful to have 8 weeks to do our best and prepare for this time period in which he will be out of work, May 27th will be here before we know it.
As his daughter, I am creating this GoFundMe in order to relieve some of the financial stress this life changing event is causing for both of my parents. With many uncontrollable factors that are included in this surgery, I would like to assist in helping with some of the controllable factors such as getting my family through this event financially. Ideally, I would like for my parents main focus to be on the surgery and my dad’s recovery. So, I ask, if you are willing to donate in order to support my dad’s journey through this surgery and recovery in the near future, it would be greatly appreciated. If not, I urge you to share this with friends and family.
Thank you in advance,
The Dooley Family
