Brian has been fighting a devastating illness for years, and we are now at a critical point in his journey. What doctors initially believed was systemic sarcoidosis has affected nearly every part of his body — including his liver, spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow, kidneys, spine, and nervous system. Over the past three years, he has endured countless hospital visits, procedures, and treatments while continuing to fight with incredible strength. Two years ago, Brian was also diagnosed with MGUS, a precursor condition to multiple myeloma. Despite our concerns that something more serious was happening, doctors were unable to confirm a diagnosis at that time.
Unfortunately, Brian’s health has declined significantly since August, and after extensive testing, including a recent bone marrow biopsy and genetic testing, doctors now believe he is facing advanced multiple myeloma — a cancer of the plasma cells. Brian has undergone multiple aggressive treatments for sarcoidosis, including several third-line therapies, but his body has not responded. His condition has worsened rapidly. His inflammation markers have skyrocketed to extremely dangerous levels, and doctors have now stopped his current treatments while specialists determine what options may still be available based on his genetic results.
Right now, Brian is extremely weak. Simple daily tasks have become incredibly difficult. He has lost over 20 pounds in just two months, experiences constant fevers and night sweats, and struggles to walk even short distances without nearly passing out. He is now being admitted to UF Health in Gainesville where he will stay until his condition is stabilized. We are doing everything possible to get Brian the care he needs and explore treatment options that may help stabilize his condition and improve his quality of life. Unfortunately, the medical expenses and potential treatments ahead are overwhelming.
These funds will be used to cover specialized care not covered by insurance, including stem cell treatments and other therapies that can improve his quality of life.
