My fellow Americans,
I have spent my life in service — first as a firefighter, answering calls when others were running away, and later as a community advocate working to protect civil rights and promote fairness. I never imagined that one day I would need to ask for help myself.
Today, I am preparing for a court hearing scheduled for June in a civil rights case against my former employer. My lawsuit involves allegations of wrongful termination, civil rights violations, and a hostile racial work environment. This is not a decision I made lightly. I just wanted to work in peace for my career and retire. Discovering all the racism and hatred hiding in plain sight was very traumatic.
Knowing I was unjustly targeted and terminated for reporting on that racism destroyed my view of the world around me. I knew I was in for a fight, but I believed that good would triumph over evil. I still do. Standing up against injustice comes at a cost — emotionally, financially, and personally.
The legal system is complex and expensive. Legal fees have become overwhelming. In order to continue pursuing justice, I have refinanced my home twice and exhausted my credit. I have done everything within my power to sustain my family while preparing for this case. All of this while caring for my aging mom as she battles health issues, and while raising my youngest son, trying to prevent him from seeing me worry about finances.
But I cannot carry this alone any longer.
This case is about more than me. It is about accountability. It is about ensuring that workplaces honor civil rights protections. It is about standing firm against environments that undermine dignity and equality.
Justice should not be reserved only for those who can afford it.
If you are able, I respectfully ask for your support — whether through a financial contribution, sharing this message, or offering words of encouragement. Every act of support strengthens my ability to stand in that courtroom prepared.
I have always believed in this country’s promise of fairness and equal protection under the law. With your help, I can continue to pursue that promise.
I will update donors with transparency regarding how the funds will be utilized at every step of the process, so everyone can rest assured that their donations aren't being squandered.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for standing with me.
With respect,
Brian Younger
