Brian Copeland has always been someone who shows up for others. If you know him, or even if you’ve just come across his work or are aware of his community presence in the Bay Area, you know he cares deeply about people and has spent much of his life giving back and making a difference.

On June 12, his life took an unexpected turn. He was rushed to the hospital and admitted with multiple life-threatening diagnoses. It was a frightening and overwhelming experience for his family. Thankfully, those issues have been treated and are now under control, but he is still in the hospital recovering.

During this already difficult time, doctors discovered an additional and serious heart condition that he had no idea about. As a result, Brian now needs open-heart surgery. While he and his family are grateful this was caught in time, it adds another major challenge to his recovery.

This surgery will require a long healing process, and he will be unable to work for several months. Along with the emotional toll, he is now facing significant medical expenses from his hospital stay, ongoing treatment, and the upcoming surgery, along with everyday living costs while he is out of work.
