Help My Friend Recover After Car Break-In During the Holidays
I'm reaching out on behalf of my friend Brian who experienced a devastating car break-in on December 23rd while hiking at Solstice Canyon—a place that has been sacred to his healing journey since mid-July.
What Happened:
After a 90-minute hike, he returned to find his passenger window smashed and door lock broken. His car was the only one targeted in a lot full of vehicles. Within minutes of the break-in, thieves were already using his stolen credit cards at nearby stores—charging $425 before he could cancel them while still with the police. Weirdly, the police said they could not help him because it was the jurisdiction of the National Park, something he is still navigating.
What Was Stolen:
Apple AirPods Pro and Max ($900)
Wallet with passport, driver's license, and credit cards
Art supplies including bags of pens and markers - if you know Brian, these are some of the tools of his trade ! ($150)
Clothing including shoes and jackets ($600)
His backpack and other personal items
The Costs:
Replacing passenger window: $400
Repairing door lock: $275
Fraudulent charges: $425
New driver's license: $40
New passport: $130+
Total documented losses: $2,920
Beyond the financial loss, this happened right before Christmas. After months of using those mountain trails as part of his healing journey a place that gave solace, it feels like a strange hit. Items have been traced to a specific location but still law enforcement cannot help.
Thank you for your kindness and support !
