Anyone who knows Bri knows that she would immediately drop everything to help out anyone in need - whether it's a friend, a complete stranger, or a dog facing euthanasia at a shelter. Just in the short time that I have known her, she has dedicated countless hours of her time to make sure that dogs at the shelter are loved and advocated for. She cares for each of these dogs so deeply, so you can only imagine how deep that transcends to her own dog. Koda is her baby boy and this has been such a difficult process for her with so many unanswered questions along the way.
Bri is the type of person you turn to when you need someone to get things done. She will do absolutely everything in her power to fight for Koda and make sure he receives the best care and the best chance at recovery. I would love to help ease the financial burden so that she can focus all her energy into whatever needs done to help Koda with his recovery❤️
A message from Bri:
"If you’ve ever met Koda, you know how special he is. He’s incredibly smart, goofy, playful, and the sweetest soul you’ll ever meet. For the past five years, he’s been my rock-helping me through some of the hardest moments of my life, never failing to put a smile on my face.
About two months ago, Koda began limping and showing signs of pain. As any concerned dog parent would, I took him to the vet right away. After weeks of diagnostics, we still couldn’t find the cause. His pain worsened, so I brought him to an internal medicine specialist. More tests followed, but again, no clear answers. We scheduled an MRI for 9/30, hoping it would finally give us clarity.
But on 9/26, Koda’s body suddenly failed him. He couldn’t sit up, stand, lost urinary control, stopped eating, developed a fever over 104°F, and became severely lethargic. The light in his eyes dimmed and I immediately brought him to the ER.
He received critical care to stabilize him, but on the day of his MRI, bloodwork showed his kidneys were too compromised for anesthesia. We hospitalized him overnight to try to improve his levels. On 10/1, despite his elevated kidney values, we proceeded with the MRI. And we finally got our answer.
Koda has multifocal discospondylitis as well as meningitis — a painful severe spinal infection that explains his sudden decline.
Koda is still hospitalized. His fever and kidney levels remain high, and I can’t bring him home yet. Today I was told there was no improvement, but when I visited, he sat up to greet me. He ate a full bowl of food and drank nearly an entire container of bone broth. That’s not a dog giving up. That’s a dog fighting.
Koda is a warrior. This disease is excruciating, but he’s receiving the best possible care to manage his symptoms and give him a chance to recover. It’s a long shot, but I’m doing everything I can to help him heal. If he tells me it’s his time, I’ll honor that. But today, he told me he’s not done yet.
As you can imagine, the veterinary bills are overwhelming. One overnight hospital stay with all his medications ~$2000 not including all the diagnostics we’ve done so far. Having financial peace of mind would make a world of difference as I focus on giving Koda every chance to survive.
If you know me, you know how deeply I love animals. I spend my days off volunteering at my local shelter and fostering dogs in need. I rescued Koda five years ago, and he’s inspired me to give love to those who don’t yet have their person. But now, Koda needs help.
If you’re able to donate, I’m endlessly grateful. If you can’t, please share this message. Koda deserves a chance and I believe he still wants to fight.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
