Megan will be out of work and recovering for at least three months and needs help.
Once Megan's needs are met, Brett will donate the rest to a good cause — probably to the terrific organization where he and Drew volunteer, Food Not Bombs.

Our dear friend Brett Price needs our help. He is a poet and musician from Cincinnati and a beloved friend and mentor to many, many people and cats.
Brett is about to become a kidney donor for another dear friend, Megan Freshley. The surgery and recovery will keep him from working and earning for six weeks or more. Brett had heard about her challenges as she has gotten sicker. Five earlier donor possibilities had fallen through, and she is now down to 20% kidney function, quite ill and in need of a donor now. Brett's always been in good health and he realized that Megan was in great need and that he could make a difference for a friend. After much consideration, lots of tests, and many conversations with friends, family, and the Christ Hospital transplant team, he decided to be a kidney donor for Megan.
Awesomely, nearly all medical costs related to surgery are covered by Megan's insurance. However, Brett's recovery time post-surgery is six weeks during which he will not be able to lift more than ten pounds, and loss of income is not covered by insurance. Brett's primary source of income is home renovation and handy-work, and the healing process will make it impossible for him to perform physical labor for at least six weeks. Everybody who knows Brett knows what a golden-hearted, generous person he is — let's give back whatever we can!
