This is a story of an extraordinary man, a true warrior. Brett Leo is a dear friend of mine, a well-known figure in the hospitality sector, and a proud father of two lovely fur babies. He has cancer, but that has not hindered him from continuing to work and finding humor in life.

After several years of working with Brett, I became convinced that he relished boasting about his narcissism and superficiality. Later, it became evident that this was all a facade to hide his big heart. If I ever showed an inkling of despair, he was quick to offer help or tried to make me laugh with his dry sense of humor.

When Brett texted me that he had been diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin lymphoma, my heart began to race, and my lips quivered as my tears barely hung from my lashes. Unexpectedly, I burst out in laughter, remembering how obsessed he was about maintaining his hair and preventing hair loss. I assumed it would be his primary concern, above all else. My suspicion was confirmed when he told me he had chosen to participate in an experimental hair treatment that could decrease the likelihood of hair loss. Disappointingly, his doctor discredited the effectiveness of this hair treatment. He was doomed for his worst nightmare: hair loss. Regardless of his fate, he continued to banter about his situation and clarified that he didn't want anyone to treat him differently. This was typical of Brett - unconventionally lighthearted.
