Brett's condition is the result of Alport Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive kidney damage, ultimately leading to kidney failure. Despite the hardships, Brett has shown incredible strength in his fight against this disease. His journey is nothing short of remarkable, and he continues to face each challenge with unwavering determination.
In a beautiful and miraculous turn of events, Brett’s soon to be sister-in-law, Maura, has stepped forward to be his living donor. Maura's selfless decision to donate her kidney is an extraordinary act of love and generosity, offering Brett a second chance at life. It's a testament to the deep bonds of family and Maura's incredible spirit.
Maura is the type of person who always goes above and beyond for others. Whether it’s lifting friends during difficult times, or spreading joy wherever she goes, she is a true gem of a person. Now, she is making the ultimate sacrifice by giving Brett the gift of life.
However, while the transplant offers Brett hope for a healthier future, the road to recovery comes with significant financial challenges for both him and Maura. These costs include:
-Medical expenses not fully covered by insurance
-Time off work for recovery for both Brett and Maura
