Bret Wulf is a devoted father of two boys who has been living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and has been paralyzed for nearly six months. As a friend and co-worker for the past six years, I’ve seen firsthand how much Bret means to his family and friends. His oldest son, who is 19 and away at college, has managed to visit him several times, but it’s been especially hard for his youngest, who is only nine and has only been able to see his dad once during this difficult time.
Bret’s life changed dramatically when he became paralyzed, and he’s spent months in various medical facilities. The costs of long-term care, therapy, and a medical flight to Florida for specialized treatment are overwhelming. There’s uncertainty about whether Bret will ever be able to return home, and the family is facing tough decisions about his future care. Through it all, his girlfriend Jenna has been by his side, spending most nights at the hospital to support him. His aunt Kim has also been there every step of the way, uprooting her own life to care for Bret and provide constant support, especially since Bret’s mother passed away when he was younger.
Support from the community would help relieve some of the stress Bret and his family are under and give them options for better care. Every contribution will make a difference in helping Bret access the resources he needs and bring hope to his family during this challenging time.
