Suddenly in May this year, after just a cough persisted, Bret became short of breath and was rushed to the Hospital. This was just the beginning.
Around Memorial Day, Bret has been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer- NUT Carcinoma, gathering in his lung and treachea. NUT Carcinoma is extremely rare, with only a few hundred cases on record. Due to this, there is not a standard treatment plan for this as not only are there very few cases of NUT Carcinoma diagnosed, there are even fewer who respond to treatment plans for it.
They insist on being self-sufficient, but we all know that everyone needs some sort of support, especially in times of true financial and emotional distress. As this journey continues to be fought, cancer treatment bills begin to build up, and we who have any experience in life know this is just the beginning of a long marathon. After numerous trips to the ER and hospital stays, they have begun treatment managed in cooperation with Dana Farber Medical at Harvard University. We are entering round 5 of chemotherapy this week for him.
Kristen has been his absolute rock through this and we cannot be more thankful for her support and love.
So far this year has been a major struggle emotionally, physically, and financially for their family. And this is not over, not by a long shot. But the fight is strong and he will persist. This page was created by Bret's Family to assist his family with the ongoing medical treatments and financial burdens that come with this fight. If you are willing to donate, every cent will be going directly towards getting him to his future.
If you are unable to financially give at the moment, please send positive thoughts and good wishes, as we can use as many as possible throughout his fight.
Thank you all in advance for supporting Bret through this incredibly tough time.
