Support Brent's Fight Against Leukemia
Donation protected
We are devastated and to learn Brent’s Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia-APL has relapsed after 4 1/2 years. But, we are thankful the APL has been caught early this time! It is deep in the bone marrow and “blast” leukemic cells were found on his left pelvic bone, 4th right rib and between T11-T12 of his spine.
Brent was sent to Duke Blood Cancer Center and the relapse was confirmed yesterday, 11/25/24. Brent will be admitted to Gibbs Cancer Center on Monday, 12/2/24 and will have a lumbar puncture and labs, then his chemo regimen will start immediately. He will receive 3 types of chemo over a 30 day period. He will be inpatient the whole 30 days, therefore unable to work. He is out of PTO (being the end of the year) and will be dependent on his short term disability.
This will be a long road for Brent and his family. Once chemo is complete he will have a follow-up bone marrow biopsy to confirm there are no lingering cancerous cells. If there are still remnants of cancer cells, he will then have a round of radiation. Then another bone marrow biopsy. Once all clear of cancerous cells he will then be prepped for a Bone Marrow Transplant, using his own Bone Marrow. He will have a 30 day housing cost in Durham, NC post transplant at Duke University and approximate recovery of up to 3 months.
Any donation you feel led to give will be greatly appreciated.
The upside, Courtney and the kids and family/close friends will be able to visit him regularly. We are thankful for that.
Brent has walked through this fire, like the warrior he is, once before and he will do it again! We put all our faith in Jesus Christ and give Brent to him for total healing. Please pray for Brent, Courtney, Eli and Charlotte as we all walk this with him.
