Hello everyone, my name is Brent, and I'm reaching out for help because my companion dog, Bear, has fallen ill. Bear is a rescue we pulled from the euthanasia list about nine months ago from the Oakland Animal Services Shelter. When we got him, he was all skin and bones but had a massive passion for life.

After a few early bouts with gastrointestinal issues, he made a full recovery and became a well-tempered, excited, and energetic young Malinois. Unfortunately, he took an unexpected turn for the worse recently. After waking up from a nap around 12 PM, he became lethargic. He was eating and drinking normally, but his urine became very dark. Around 6 PM, he vomited up his breakfast, which was undigested after approximately 11 hours.

I rushed him to the emergency vet hospital, where he began to present what looked like blood in his urine. After triage, they discovered he had a fever of around 105°F. Despite 'active cooling,' his fever did not drop, and the doctor decided to keep him overnight to administer IV fluids and monitor his fever and urine samples. He has been there since 8 PM last night with no diagnosis yet.

The doctors mentioned that he was limping, which was news to us. They suspect it might be 'rhabdomyolysis,' where damaged skeletal muscle breaks down rapidly, often due to high-intensity exercise over a short period. This seems unlikely to us as we haven't done much intensive exercise or play recently. They want to keep him longer for more tests to gain more information.

The costs associated with his overnight stay and the necessary tests have been overwhelming. The intake alone exceeded $2,600, and they still do not understand the cause of his symptoms. With more testing, more deposits are required, and this emergency has drained our savings and maxed out a credit card. I'm at a loss for words.

With your help and contributions, we hope to relieve the financial stress of his stay. We aim to pay for his medical bills and take some time off work to help him recover fully. Even though I live in California, I still make under $50k a year, so any relief in this situation would be a massive help.

If our story resonates with you, please consider donating to our cause. I don't expect to meet the total amount needed, but every dollar gets us one step closer to bringing Bear home safely and providing him with the care he needs to make a full recovery.

Thank you all in advance ❤️

Brent
