Many of you have probably heard by now that Brent Franklin Jr. is battling cancer. Stage 4 adenoid cystic carcinoma, high grade. He got the diagnosis in July, and underwent his first surgery to remove it from the nasal passages in early August.
Since then, he was following with a naturopathic clinic who made some misleading promises, and in that time Brent lost a lot of weight, began to have more facial swelling from the remaining cancer in his jaw, and began having severe back pain. This led to an ER visit that revealed that the cancer had spread throughout his spine, and the bone had decayed to the point that he had a compression fracture and some bulging discs. He underwent major back surgery on 11/4 and was hospitalized for a total of 9 days. During this time, more imaging revealed that the cancer has also spread to his liver and lungs.
Caitlin and Brent are thankful to continue recovering from home, and are now turning their efforts towards aggressively attacking the cancer from all angles. He has already started with the Riordan Clinic, a different naturopathic clinic that is using natural supplements, and IV and injectable natural remedies that directly attack the cancer and its ability to make new blood supply. It will also support and protect his body during chemo and radiation, which he will be starting in the next three weeks.
Since the summer, there have been two surgeries, one hospitalization, appointments with the naturopathic clinics and acupuncture clinics, and now upcoming rounds of chemo and radiation. In the future, a possibility for more surgery.
At a time when most married couples in their 20s are saving for their first home, Brent and Caitlin are instead facing a mounting burden of medical bills. I first want to say that both families are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of prayers that we have heard about from friends and even friends of friends who don’t know them directly. It’s truly touching and we know that prayer is our greatest weapon.
However, we’ve also heard of several asking how they can help in tangible ways, such as financial assistance. We hope that through this GoFundMe, those who’ve felt led to bless them in this way to have an avenue to do so. There is a transaction fee, but otherwise all funds will go directly towards Brent and Caitlin and helping to offset the medical bills.
If anyone has any questions, please reach out to myself, Rachel Franklin, or Mallory Brown.
