I wrote the notorious interspecies romance novel "Wet Goddess: Recollections of a Dolphin Lover" and two other books nobody reads. I'm now retired, and raising money to supplement my meager monthly $1,005 (as of 2025) Social Security income. I am by trade a reporter and photographer, now suffering from three debilitating, but not fatal, health conditions: chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), vertigo and prurugia nodularis (if you don't read Latin, don't ask. It's vile.) These have greatly curtailed the scope and range of my activities. CFS gets worse the more you exert yourself, and in the past 5 years I have lost much of my energy, ability to work physically or even just walk my dog, Epic, around the block. I live by myself, being an incorrigible old codger, and find it difficult to make new friends. Following an accident in 2021 I don't drive, and am dependent on others for transport. Recently, I've embarked on a course of Dupixent, which has just been approved for PN, and I'm hopeful this will relieve a condition that makes look, and feel, like a Walking Dead extra.
After consulting with my daughter, who gives me unusually good advice about a wide variety of topics, we concluded that the best use of the $746.14 we've raised so far is to replace the 2018, 1.5-ton AC unit with something newer. A leak in the high-pressure copper tubing is almost impossible to repair with any certainty, and most of the windows in this house are the old valence kind, now sealed shut with silicon rubber.
The result is that this house routinely gets to over 90ºF in the summer, and stays that way until late at night. The current, window vented AC unit is hardly adequate to cooling the central area of the house, much less bedrooms, bathrooms and laundry room served by the central AC. So to protect my health and keep this house livable, we need to replace with AC unit with the best we can get, at the best price. Cross your fingers!
