My name is Brenna and for years, I’ve been living with chronic back pain that has slowly affected nearly every part of my daily life. Assuming the pain was related to overuse from my athletic training in gymnastics, I tried to do everything “right” — physical therapy, injections, rest, chiropractors, and activity modification — but nothing brought lasting relief. After a long and frustrating process, I finally received answers.

I recently learned that I was born with congenital defects in my lower spine. I have an extra vertebra and a defect in the bones that normally help keep the spine stable. Because of this, part of my spine moves in a way it was never designed to, causing constant instability, pain, and intermittent nerve symptoms throughout my body. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover this type of specialized care, and the out-of-pocket cost is overwhelming. Asking for help is not easy, but this surgery offers a real chance at living without constant pain and being able to fully participate and thrive in my work, relationships, and everyday life again.
