As many of you have heard, Brendan has been diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a rare neurological disorder caused by inflammation of the spinal cord. He has been fighting the disorder for the last month and has received excellent care along the way. After stays at Newton Wellesley and Brigham and Women's, he was fortunate to move to Spaulding in Charlestown and began his rehabilitation journey in earnest a week ago.
As you'd expect, Brendan has embraced this challenge and is working relentlessly at his physical therapy for hours each day and making great progress.
Brendan’s effort and positive attitude have been inspiring and reassuring. He and his family know there is a long road ahead, but everyone is behind Brendan and looking forward to his return home. Brendan will continue the road to recovery at Spaulding for several more weeks, but his recovery will eventually continue at home. To do this safely and comfortably and to set conditions for his recovery, Amy and Brendan will need to make some unanticipated modifications to their home.
Brendan is infinitely grateful for all your thoughts, notes, calls, and visits. The support is fueling his desire and commitment to recovery and returning to his family, to the soccer fields and to continue to develop players and kids across Massachusetts. His love for his family, for Coaching and for fitness will absolutely enable his recovery, but he knows he cannot do it alone. He needs our continued support.
Many of you have asked how else you can help. In addition to your continued love and support, we are seeking financial donations to help fund the road to recovery, specifically, towards home modifications and unforecasted expenses. Contributing to some of these home modifications such as a walk-in shower or easier entry into the home would be incredibly helpful to Brendan and his family. Financial donations will also ease the burden in other areas such as future home therapy sessions, medical-related travel costs, and unanticipated emerging requirements to support his recovery. Please trust that every donation, no matter the amount, will make a huge difference and is greatly appreciated. Although we are all hopeful these home modifications will not be needed for long, we'd like to make his return home as comfortable as possible for him, Amy, and the boys.
Thank you all for your love and support and in advance for your generosity to help with Brendan’s road to recovery. Every donation is sincerely appreciated. Brendan and his entire family are humbled by your support and thankful for your prayers and love.
Brendan won’t quit. The road to recovery is on. Let’s go!
