Help Brendan Hamilton & Family Fight Against Cancer

My name is Amy Hamilton and I am Brendan Hamilton’s sister-in-law. Brendan has been like a brother to me for 20 years since I started dating his twin, Dacre. We all grew up going to the same small town school in Clavet, SK, where the Hamilton twins formed a tight knit community of friends that see each other regularly to this day. After school he graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Geology degree, but changed paths a couple years later to become a Journeyman Carpenter. He now has his own company, Braven Construction. Brendan is a devoted and loving husband to Kayla (Schatz) (from Allan, SK) and father to their 2-year-old son, Myles.

Starting in September 2024, Brendan started to notice some odd symptoms and sought medical attention. For the next month and half he was in and out of mediclinics and the ER battling a chest infection, shortness of breath, and pain and swelling in his feet and legs. Finally, on October 24, 2024, on his son’s 2nd birthday, an X-ray revealed blood clots in his lungs and leg and he was admitted to the hospital.

Over the next week, doctors were perplexed and Brendan underwent test after test to find the root cause of the clots. After over a week of testing, waiting, and Brendan’s health continuing to decline, everyone was shocked when Brendan was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer at 36 years of age. As a young, non-smoker, this is a very rare cancer for Brendan to get according to his doctors.

Kayla has been by Brendan’s side in the hospital every day since he was admitted. More tests are being done to determine the best course of action for treatment. This diagnosis is still very new and the whole family is taking it day by day, but we do know that while Brendan is unable to work (despite asking us when we think he’d be able to go back) and with Kayla acting as his primary caregiver, they need our support during this time. Brendan is still on oxygen in the hospital as he starts his treatments.

To know Brendan is to love him. Brendan is always the one to make people laugh, raise people’s spirits, and make difficult situations a little less heavy.
