Update 07/19: Breezy went in for surgery yesterday but was unable to move forward with it due to her heart not responding to meds. In the event she had a cardiac event under anesthesia they wouldn’t be able to help her. With her heart issues it is a very high risk. She saw a cardiologist today who evaluated her and said she should not go under anesthesia without a pacemaker. We have agreed to move forward with getting her a pacemaker and having the mass removed in the same procedure. While it comes with risk as any procedure this would provide her the best quality of life going forward after healing. It would help to mitigate any effects from her heart condition and remove the mass.
Update 07/03:
Just talked to Breezy’s surgeon….she has a lot of heart issues it seems.
1. They confirmed the calcium is higher than normal which leads her to believe that mass is cancerous so she wants to get that removed asap
2. She has HCM - hypertrophic cardio myopathy, she will need medication for it 3. She has 3rd degree AV block. She wants to schedule the surgery for mass, but before doing the operation would give her a medication to test her heart, if it responds positively, it’s vaguel tone and good to proceed with surgery. If it doesn’t respond, she would need to see a cardiologist first and potentially need a pacemaker before doing surgery to remove the mass.
Best case scenario her heart responds to the meds in the, they remove the mass and follow up with cardiologist to get her on meds for her heart. Test and surgery scheduled for 07/10
Help Breezy: Surgery Needed for Potential Cancer
Dear Friends, Family, and Animal Lovers,
I hope this message finds you well. Today, we are reaching out with a heavy heart and a plea for help. Our cat, Breezy, has recently been diagnosed with a condition that may be cancerous. We found a large mass on her neck that needs to be removed, and all tests thus far have been unable to determine if this mass is cancerous or something else. After several visits to the vet and numerous tests, the only option left to determine the exact nature of the illness and potentially save Breezy's life is surgery.
Breezy has been my loyal companion for 13 years, she is my first pet as an adult. She has been with me by my side through some very rough and difficult times in those 13 years, and I would do anything for her. From the moment she entered my life, she brought with her an abundance of joy, love, and comfort. Whether it's the gentle purring at my side, the playful antics that bring a smile to my face, or the soothing presence during tough times, Breezy has been an irreplaceable part of my life.
The Diagnosis
Recently, we noticed a large growth on her neck/shoulder area. After several vet appointments and tests, the veterinarians have still been unable to determine whether this is cancerous or something less serious. The only way to confirm this, thus far, is through surgery. She is currently undergoing a large number of pre-operative tests and will be followed up with surgery to remove the mass and treat any areas she may or may not have cancer in (we still do not know).
The Cost of Surgery
The surgery, along with the necessary pre- and post-operative care and potential treatments, is estimated to cost around $8,000 dollars. As you can imagine, this unexpected expense is overwhelming, and we are unable to cover the entire cost on our own. This is why we are humbly asking for your support.
