Support Bree's Battle Against Rare Cancer

Bree has been my best friend for almost 20 years. She’s not just a wonderful friend; she’s my rock, my sister from another mister. Bree is an incredible person—sharp, funny, and sarcastic in the best way. She's always willing to give her time and energy to those she cares about. She’s a devoted aunt who cherishes every moment with her niece and nephews, and she has a huge heart for animals, regularly rescuing and caring for cats in need.

In September, Bree received the devastating news that she has a rare neuroendocrine cancer (affecting only 4 in 100,000 adults), with malignant tumors in her small intestine and liver. To make matters worse, just a few weeks after her diagnosis, she lost her mother, who she had been the sole caregiver for during a terminal illness.

It’s been a really hard month, y'all.

Bree’s treatment will require two major surgeries. The first will target her gastrointestinal tract, with up to 10 days of recovery in the hospital. About 4-6 weeks later, she’ll undergo a second surgery to remove half of her liver, with another week of hospital recovery. These surgeries are just the beginning of what will be a long and difficult road ahead.

Bree needs help. While her insurance will cover some of the basics, it won’t cover everything she’ll need during her recovery. Her small workplace has been supportive, but they aren’t equipped to offer sick pay, and she doesn’t have much of a support network nearby. Like many of us, Bree lives independently, and most of her close friends, myself included, are spread across the country.

She plans to work for as long as she can, but there will come a time when that’s no longer possible. During her recovery, Bree will need help with her day-to-day life—caring for herself, her home, and her beloved animals. She also needs help covering her regular monthly expenses and mounting medical bills.
